Regardless of what you’re trying to do, just get out and do it. For example, you’ve been wanting to learn how to nymph. You’ve watched all the videos, read all the blogs and articles, looked at pictures, and now you’re set to catch a fish underneath the surface. Yet, when you get out there you’ve tied your leader into a knot around itself and the weight that you’re using. Or you’ve got too little weight on the line and your nymph isn’t even getting to where it needs to be. You’re going to be upset and frustrated, just like the first time you tried to cast. The only remedy to this is get out there and do.
The best fly-fishermen didn’t get there by sitting behind a computer and watching videos on fly-fishing, they did it by getting out there and getting their line wet. As always, good luck and guid luck!
